All About Mr. Lane

This webpage will give you some basic information about Mr. Lane -
it won't cover everything but it shouold give more information than you might have known before.

Basics

Let's see - what do I want to share?! Well, I have been teaching at Mitchell Middle School for twelve years and have taught: history, English, math, science, and technology. I have used six or seven different classrooms (three in one year!!). I thought I would be teaching history until I retired (in about 20 years) but found that I more of passion for using and teaching tech skills than I ever thought possible.

Here is a sample of what I had included in my teacher web page from a few years ago.

Family

I have two boys - Andrew and Matthew. Andrew is 13 and finishing up 7th grade while Matthew is 9 and finishing up third grade. During the summer we play disc golf on weekday mornings at least once a week. This summer I hope we can go biking at least twice a week. I also hope we can make it camping at least once - though I am not sure that is going to happen as we are going to be so busy!!

Hobbies

I have already got my retirement plans started. I love to garden - and then cook what I grow. I have also recently inherited my grandfather's Lionel toy train set (it's about 100 years old) and I am having fun restoring and recreating a winter city for the trains. Lastly, I have become involved in lobby efforts on behalf of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society - I thoroughly enjoy meeting with legislators and discussing health care issues and possible solutions that will help those with MS.

MS

As I mentioned above I volunteer with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Besides lobbying, I serve on the two local Walk MS committees - our goal is to raise awareness and funds for the MS community. MS is a disease that attacts the body in both the brain and on the spinal cord. This can have devasting affects on the person with the disease and the family who provides support. I have come a long way since first being diagnosed (about ten years ago) - at one time I had to teach from a wheelchair or needed to use a cane to move around (without falling) - now my symptoms are basically invisible.

And this is basically the problem - no one can see the issues I deal with daily: temperature changes, fatigue, and issues with balance. AND I'M ONE OF THE THE LUCKY ONES!!! I continue to do
